〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉
CHARACTER NAME: Josuke Higashikata
CHARACTER AGE: 16
SERIES: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
CHRONOLOGY: Chapter 439; End of Diamond is Unbreakable
CLASS: Guardian
HOUSING: Random
BACKGROUND: A detailed version of Josuke's history can be found here.
PERSONALITY: I'd begin with "At first glance..." but the truth is, that's pretty subjective, as evidenced by the many varying opinions of Josuke that exist in canon. For example, some people think he's nothing more than a firestarting asshole or a delinquent with a hair trigger temper at first glance, while others see a youth who puts others before himself or a friend of the truest kind. Of course, neither perspective is wholly accurate. The bottom line? Josuke is still young, still impressionable, ever adapting, and that makes him unpredictable. And that's the protagonist of JJBA: Part IV in a nutshell. Crack that open and you get...well, keep on reading.
Josuke's often silly nature belies a shrewd mind. He is book-smart combined with street-smart, being both a fairly diligent student and someone who has become experienced in affairs of extraordinary natures. Actually, Josuke does his best thinking under pressure and he is capable of coming up with outrageous solutions to problems that others might consider to be a lost cause. If given time to deliberate, he'll use the time wisely and do his utmost to come up with a way to achieve the best possible outcome for any situation. He definitely leans in favor of intuitive thought processes, but even so, it's important to note that he is not impractical. The last thing Josuke ever wants to do is abandon reason.
Josuke is just a freshman in high school, so he hasn't given what kind of career he wants to pursue a whole lot of thought. It's probably safe to assume that he has an interest in marine life (like Jotaro) based upon the anchor pin he wears on his collar, but this is never something that is explored in canon. Bottom line is, he likes helping people; he's good at it, and it makes a positive difference in the world. There's not much more he can really ask for than that.
Definitely extroverted, Josuke enjoys spending his time around other people. He's at his best when surrounded by others, whether they're of a like mind or not. Unfortunately, that extroversion means he doesn't bottle things up inside, which is to say...he has a bit of a hair-trigger temper (literally in some instances, insulting his hair being one of the worst possible ways to provoke him). Once set off, he can either be relatively easy to talk down, or he can fly so off the handle and into a blind rage that...the best thing to do is let it run its course. And steer clear. His anger aside though, Josuke's usually pretty laid back and chill. He has a positive outlook towards most things, and can be described as incredibly driven towards the pursuit of most anything he sets his mind upon.
When it comes to meeting new people, he can be a bit prone to relying too heavily upon first impressions. This isn't always the case, of course, and in some instances it's easy for a person to alter that first impression through later acts. At the end of the day, Josuke doesn't like to hold grudges, which is yet another testament to how laid back he can be. Not usually suspicious without justification, he does still demonstrate a lot of open-faced curiosity, particularly when meeting people who...don't fit stereotypical molds.
In terms of how he's likely to behave in most situations, good or bad, Josuke tends to react more than act, but his default instinct is strongly in favor of fight over flight. He is not somebody who ever runs away from his problems. No matter how bad things get, he sees everything through to the end.
On a lighter note, his sense of humor is...quite a bit like his father's. He appreciates all kinds of jokes, puns, and pranks. Generally speaking, the worse they are, the better...but if someone delivers a humorous remark that's extra clever, he'd be appreciative of it, too. In short, anything that might inspire a laugh is golden and deserves an A+ in Josuke's books. He prefers cheer to despondency, in fact, and even when at his lowest tends to surround himself with people who lift his spirits right back up again.
Probably the most defining moments in Josuke's life were when his life was saved by a stranger when he was four years old, and when he met Jotaro and his father, Joseph, shortly after turning sixteen. Both of these encounters shaped him, giving him his Stand ability, and answering questions he's had for years about family he never had the chance to meet before.
And, in all honesty, anyone who knows of those events can probably easily ascertain what his greatest fear is. Though he'll tell people he's afraid of reptiles (and he is), even more than that he is afraid of losing his family and friends. There is nothing more precious, more cherished, more worth risking his life for in the entire world...than them. Of course, that doesn't mean that he wants anyone to know he's terrified of turtles, either.
On that note, Josuke's interpersonal relationships have had a rather profound impact upon his personality. His relationship with his mother is a very close one, for starters. He loves her and respects her, and he would do anything to keep harm from coming to her. His grandfather, Ryohei, who helped raised him, is also someone Josuke loves and cares deeply for...or did. He passed away after being attacked by an enemy Stand user, a loss that shook Josuke to his core, further proof that he cannot stand senseless death, particularly when it involves his loved ones. As for his real father, Josuke's relationship with him is complicated. Upon getting to know him little by little, however, Josuke learns to deeply respect and care for his father, too...despite his flaws. Josuke is also very close with his nephew, Jotaro. In fact, despite his (much older) nephew possessing a rather cool disposition, the two get along very well with one another and work even better together. There really isn't anybody in his family that he can't stand...but then, he hasn't met them all. (Give him a chance. He'll have some very, very strong opinions about one or two of them in the near future.) And while not family by blood relation...Josuke considers his friends to be just as important to him. His best friends, Koichi and Okuyasu, have been by his side through the best and worst of times. Even Rohan, whom he is constantly at odds with, is somebody Josuke would never actually want to see harm come to.
All that said, he's pretty typical of most teenage boys. He spends his money on music, video games, and expensive designer clothing, dreams about winning big on lottery tickets, is fairly popular with girls his age and the target of jealousy for boys his age, and gets a rise out of trying new things as long as they're not too weird or too dangerous. He's happiest when he can kick back and have a good time with his friends, whether that means having lunch together or playing pranks on whoever looks to be a fun target at the time, it's all good as long as nobody gets hurt.
POWER: Below Josuke's powers have been separated into Canon and Non-Canon subcategories...

POWER: Below Josuke's powers have been separated into Canon and Non-Canon subcategories...
CANON
"Humans thrive on the destruction of others...but among them there's you, and your power is the kindest, most generous ability one could ever have..." —Jotaro Kujo to Josuke Higashikata
Canonically, Josuke possesses a power called Stand — a "ghostly ripple" said to reflect the spirit of its wielder — that is unique to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Only those who possess Stands themselves can see the Stand of another. While not typically physical manifestations themselves, Stands are capable of effecting the material world around them by extension of their supernatural abilities. In addition, because Stands are every bit a part of those who wield them, most damage any Stand incurs is reflected back upon its User — think an eye for an eye. (However, there are Stands in existence that are an exception to this rule, as well as Stands with only aspects of themselves that are an exception, but this is not applicable to Josuke specifically.) Josuke's Stand first developed when he was four years old; true to Jotaro's assessment when he named Josuke's Stand, Crazy Diamond's abilities reflect Josuke's intense opposition to killing as well as his golden heart.STAND NAME: Crazy DiamondFor the purpose of Mask or Menace and its cross-canon setting, Josuke's Stand will be specifically visible to characters who possess strong spiritual or magical powers, as they will most closely resemble the Stands and their Users from his canon.
STAND ABILITIES: Crazy Diamond is a short range Stand that is limited to a maximum performance distance of about 2 meters from Josuke. Like most other Stands of this type, Crazy Diamond is equipped with superior super strength and speed, the latter of which is said to be capable of exceeding 300 km/h.
However, the supernatural power that is truly unique to Josuke's Stand is its incomparable restorative ability. Crazy Diamond can heal the wounded, repair objects that have been destroyed so long as all their pieces are present, and can even revert objects to their original state or raw components. Coupled with Josuke's ingenuity, other creative uses for Crazy Diamond have also been utilized, including but not limited to: extending its reach through the use of projectiles (using Crazy Diamond to restore broken elements that have been scattered beyond its 2 meter limit and strategically wielding them in battle); retrieval or tracking (such as when he lifted Joseph's wallet); and trapping (as seen versus Angelo when Josuke had Crazy Diamond break and restore a bottle again around Angelo's Stand in order to capture it). That said, there are limitations to the kind of restorations that can be performed by Crazy Diamond. For example, it cannot bring back to life any living organism that has died (although it can heal someone who is on the verge of death); Josuke is also unable to use it to heal his own injuries; cure diseases; and anything possessing pieces that have been permanently destroyed or lost cannot be restored because all the pieces to "fix" it no longer exist. Furthermore, use of Crazy Diamond's restorative ability when Josuke is emotionally compromised (think really, really angry!) can lead to the fusion of two objects (such as when he fused Angelo with one of Morioh's large rock formations) or an "improper" restoration (witnessed several times throughout Diamond is Unbreakable, but first glimpsed when Josuke's Stand strikes the face of an upperclassman who insulted his hair, thus breaking the older boy's nose and restoring it again which resulted in a very unflattering new shape).
NON-CANON
ROLL OF THE DICE: As described here, this ability can grant its user a substantial increase in luck, but because it is a power that activates on its own, Josuke is not able to summon or control it. This means that sometimes the "roll of the dice" may not be in Josuke's favor at all. As the player, I will be using RNG and rolling on a scale from 1 - 20 in order to determine the success rate of this ability — 1 being a complete reversal of good fortune, and 20 being the luckiest of all. The magnitude of risk involved will also effect how good or bad Josuke's fortune is. For example, if Josuke's ability were to activate during a game of Pachinko, he might find that poor luck would mean getting banned from the parlor for underage gambling or that as soon as he leaves a machine someone else would win the jackpot; whereas if his luck was running high that day, he might find that he would win a small jackpot himself or be rewarded several free games by the owner for his loyal patronage. Similarly, if Josuke was in a fight with someone, a number of terrible things could happen to him spanning from humiliation to lost consciousness, or broken limbs to death; while good fortune might mean being unable to be struck, finishing the fight in one blow, or being showered with praise and celebrated as a hero.
